The Downtown Charleston Lilac Den – Before and After

The Downtown Charleston Lilac Den – Before and After

This post is way long overdue because this was my FIRST paid project EVER that I completed almost a year ago! Oh the shame of getting it together, but there’s lots of pride because I truly love the way this room turned out.

Let’s start from the beginning. I was hired by a previous real estate client who was recently engaged and moving into her fiance’s downtown home. She told me to help take the bachelor pad to something they could both enjoy. So, I was excited and nervous.

First thought was, how am I going to get this total bachelor to transform into something a little more sophisticated? But, as soon as I came onto the project, he was so open. I mean like he let me paint the walls lilac sorta open. WHAT!?!?! Super stoked! So the design began… but first the before below:

I created two mood boards to inspire them.

The end result was this…..

We had to mix paint and lighten it to achieve the right shade of lilac. At this point I have no clue what the color is, but we love it!!

We searched everywhere for the perfect fabric and found this violet suzani – it came in and I sent it off to the seamstress.

We also reupholstered a chair with a lilac found at a local fabric store and used the leftover curtain fabric to make a pillow for it. One big decision change we did that unfortunately I did not take a before picture of was the fireplace. It was covered in sheet rock and we had that taken off because we had a feeling there was beautiful brick hidden behind it, and there was! We had a custom mantle made. In the end everyone loves the result!

Since there was so much “softness” in the room with the curtains, color and chair we had to add a little masculine touch to it, and we did so with the coffee table, sofa color & rug.

In regards to finishing touches, we added the beautiful light from Pottery Barn. The glass 3 tier side tables from Ballard Designs, the rug from Rugs USA, pillows and throw from Homegoods.

The art was my client’s, and it fit the space so beautifully!

At the end both the now husband and wife are so happy with their finished room and have enjoyed entertaining people. I’ve moved onto other projects in their home and look forward to sharing with you when they’re all complete!

I really love that coffee table. It’s one of the prettiest ones I’ve ever seen. The lilac is so right in here with the lighting. Love!
