I had the pleasure of meeting Megan at Haven in Atlanta this past summer. So, like I did previously when meeting all these great bloggers, I went home and started to read her blog. Not only does she have a blog about home decor, fashion and organization, she has a blog about food and fitness! She is as sweet as can be, her home is fabulous and she motivates me to work out and try and eat better when I read her posts. So, come sit & enjoy a fun read!

Q. Prior to Honey We’re Home, what did you do?

In the not too distant past, I worked as a lawyer but stayed home with my son for about the first year of his life. I loved my job, and it was hard to leave, but I love being home, too. As I get more into blogging and involved with my son’s school and other activities, I enjoy the freedom not working full-time provides. I spend a lot of time with my parents that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Our household runs smoother now, although it’s a never-ending struggle to juggle everything. Balls sometimes drop, and we were late for school this morning! :/

Q. What inspired the blog, and what inspired the name?

The blog started as a way to chronicle the process of building and moving into our home. Our son was just 4 months old at the time and life was full of new beginnings. I got hooked on blogs like La Dolce Vita, Elements of Style and Centsational Girl and was inspired to start my own blog.

Only one other person has asked about my blog name! It was a quick pick that I didn’t give too much thought to. The name came from a ritual of coming home from work. If I got home from work before my husband, I always called out “Welcome home, honey!” when he arrived. If I got home after him, I’d say, “Honey, I’m home!” So, as we moved into our new home, “Honey We’re Home” felt appropriate. I liked that it had “home” in the name because I knew the blog would center around our home. I’ve often wondered if I should’ve given more thought to the name, but too late to change now!

Q. Your home is lovely and you’ve done so much. What else is on your list of to-do items for your home?

Thank you! It’s always a work in progress! The to-do list is still ever-growing! Our “media room” has become a default playroom, but I’d love to get it organized and beautified. I’m working on a mini-mudroom makeover now.

Q. What has been your favorite project so far?

I love the dramatic impact of the bold dark grey and white stripes on the wall of our entry and as the curve around the wall of our staircase. We only had the entryway stripes up for a long time, then finally continued them around the wall.  My husband measured and helped tape and I painted, so this is one project we worked on together.

Q. How would you describe your style to the readers?

After four years of blogging and decorating my home, you’d think I’d know how to answer this question, but it always stumps me. I know what I like, but it’s hard to define. I think my style is closest to what decorators would call “sophisticated classic” and “cozy glam”. I like clean and organized spaces above all. I’m a fan of a bit of glamour and often bring that in with metallic finishes and lots of mirrors. But, I also like cozy spaces that feel relaxing and airy too.

Q. What is your favorite item that you get excited about in decorating?

I have way too many lamps (I’m always changing them out) and mirrors. My favorite light fixture in our home is the chandelier in my closet.

Q. What color do you find yourself using most in your decorating projects?

Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze (a dark grey with brown undertones) is a go-to that’s in our media cabinet, kitchen cabinets, and on some of the doors in our house.

Q. Where do you go to find your home inspirations?

Pinterest, of course, decor mags, and blogs. I write a lot of my posts in my head while I’m running at the park. Getting outside and away from the computer clears my head.

Q. Perfect date night?

I love to get dressed up for a night out for dinner, a good wine, and dessert for sure. Sometimes we go alone, but we also like double (or triple!) dates. Houston is full of fantastic restaurants, and we enjoy checking out all the new places as well as visiting old favorites.

Q. Tell me something your readers don’t know about you.

I’ve been working since I was 16. My first job was in high school at a car wash, washing cars. I worked after school and on weekends. On weekends, if tips were good, I’d earn about $30. 🙂

Thanks y’all for coming by and reading. Have an awesome week!
